Savoury Oatmeal

This recipe is gonna change the impression you have of Oatmeal, that is eaten in a sloppy,  gooey, form at breakfast with loads of (so called healthy) brown sugar! It did mine:) I make it savoury and there are many people who donot prefer eating anything sweet for breakfast. This recipe will enable you to eat the healthy oatmeal without the sugar.

This is a very easy recipe, doesn't  take a long time to cook (takes only a few minutes) and  bursts with flavors of fresh herbs and gets the tartness from fresh lemon juice. Its a great substitute for rice or wheat. Try it one time and you will be hooked to it and its very healthy for you bi-iznillah!

Ingredients:

rolled oats-2 cups
water-5 cups
salt- to taste
lemon juice-2-3tbs
sliced onions-1/2 cup
ginger-garlic paste-1 -1/2 tsp
oil-2-3 tsps
turmeric powder-1 tsp
cilantro-2 tbs, chopped
fresh mint leaves-2 tsps, chopped
green peppers-3-4 cut lengthwise

Method: Bring water to a boil and add the rolled oats and let them cook  for two minutes. Lower the heat and let it simmer for a little bit. In another pot, pour oil and let it warm a little bit. Add the sliced onions and fry till golden brown. Put the ginger-garlic paste and fry until you smell the strong aroma.. At this point, put the turmeric powder and give it a stir. Pour the boiled oats and add salt. Turn off the stove and pour lemon juice and stir. Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with cilantro, mint, green peppers and serve hot.Enjoy!
